Many members of OTS (OneTalentSource) are involved in pageantry in addition to their photography, modeling and acting. Beauty pageants have been around for nearly 100 years and have evolved into many different forms. From Miss America and Miss USA to the children’s pageants shown on Toddlers & Tiaras, there is a pageant out there for every one of all ages.
Although they have gained some negative publicity in recent years, pageants are actually a great way to build confidence, poise and public speaking ability. Consider it competitive auditioning. If you can get up on stage in front of hundreds of strangers and walk in heels, sing, dance or give a speech… then a commercial audition or job interview should become a piece of cake. When acting and modeling jobs slow down, pageants can keep your communication skills up. In addition, there are great prizes available from jewelry to toys to savings bonds to college scholarships and more.

Pageants typically offer competition in several events that vary from by system. Formal wear, casual wear, talent, interview, swimsuit and onstage questions are some of the common events. When planning to enter a pageant, do your research on what is required and if the system is a good fit for your skills and experience.
There are a lot of many photo related events in pageantry and OTS is a great network tool for your photography needs. No matter what type of pageant you are planning to enter, you will need good photos. Quality headshots are required for the program book, judge’s binders and autograph cards. Portfolio shots are also important for ad pages, comp cards and portfolio contests.
