You are a product and just like every other product; if you don’t market yourself then people don’t know who you are.  There are over 6 billion people in the world and thousands of wanta’bes.  The public needs to see what you have and if you can be used to sell their products.  If you’re ready to take the next step then you need to think outside the box.

Marketing isn’t usually thought of in the same respect because it’s not a creative process, it’s the business side.  How you do market yourself without breaking the bank?  Well, if you’re on OTS (OneTalentSource) then you’ve already started.  See what other models, photographer, actors, makeup artist and people in the field are doing.  If you like their work, make contact wit them and tell them you would like to work with them.  If they’re like us, they want to give back to the community and fell a real pleasure in helping other succeed.

Producing videos and setting up photo shoot for yourself isn’t that hard if you know where to look.  Most states have a Film commission website that is a great resource for making contacts with others in the field.  In Texas there are yahoo groups that publish project for the film industry.  Actors Access is a free to sign up but rarely post for those just starting out… but you never know.  Explore other fields; if you are a model, think about photography or getting into the film industry.  We have made several contacts by working as non-paid actors.  We produced a short film, Tryst of Faith, with a director after being cast in a short film.

Now it’s time to build your network.  One of the first things I did when we started in this business is to set up a website.  Yahoo has its own website builder, it wasn’t too hard to learn and very inexpensive.  Use social networking sites like Twitter, You-Tube and Facebook to let other know about your work.  I’ve produced several videos of modeling shoots to post on You-Tube.  I’ve created Facebook FAN pages to keep interest in what we are doing in the public eye.  Link these sites so the public can see your work.  Just like this field of work, marketing takes time and work.  For most, it’ doesn’t happen overnight.  You must be dedicated and set goals.
