One of the first things that you will want to do to get started is build your portfolio with professional pictures. This will then provide you with something to use for self submissions or to submit to agencies. There are many ways to get the pictures without a lot of costs. Some photographers do TFP shoots where you don't pay for the shoot and then you and the photographer get to use the pictures in your portfolios. My Mom sometimes does TFP shoots as she is still learning as a photographer, you can find her contact information on my portfolio page.
